At the lowest detail it is twenty flat triangles, which is already the low-poly look with nothing done to it. Raise Detail and it subdivides towards a smooth ball, so this one node covers everything from a crystal shard to a rough sphere.
It is the shape to reach for when something needs to look chipped rather than moulded, and the one to use as a cutter, because its faces are evenly sized and it has no pinched poles.
