Generated surfaces come out far denser than they need to be. This cuts them down, and in doing so it is also what creates the low-poly look: merging small triangles into larger flat ones is what gives stone its big uneven planes.

It changes the shape slightly, which is the trade. Run it before flat shading, not after.
